Venezuela Earthquake Response Update 001
On June 24, two consecutive earthquakes (magnitude 7.2 followed by 7.5 mainshock) struck north-central Venezuela. On Sunday, July 28, Rescue Response International (RRI) mobilized former members of world-renowned UN INSARAG classified search and rescue teams to Venezuela. Thanks to the support of Airlink, who coordinated flights for team members on United Airlines and Avianca, the team was able to get in-country quickly. Operation One Love Have Reached 0ver 600,000 of Those Impacted By The Hurricane
Over two weeks ago, Category 5 Hurricane Melissa caused almost $8 billion USD in damages to Jamaica. The country has triggered the full amount of its $150 million catastrophe bond issued by the World Bank in 2024, which offers Jamaica financial protection against specified natural disasters. But that is only a fraction of how much is needed to help the people of Jamaica recover and rebuild.
Operation One Love Deliver Food and Water by Sling-load to Most Affected Areas
One week after Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica, the World Food Program is estimating that up to 359,000 people are in need of emergency food assistance. Access to some affected communities is only possible by air, with many roads still blocked due to the storm. With the coordination of Operation One Love Team, its partners and the Jamaica Defense Force, delivering life-saving resources including food and water was able to continue today.
Peace Corps Volunteer Returns to Village Where He Served to Restore Internet after Hurricane Melissa
John Lyon, Executive Director of Haiti Air Ambulance and the Team Lead of Operation One Love, returned to St Leonards, Westmoreland this week to set up a Starlink powered by solar generators provided by Red Lightning and Footprint Project, respectively. John has been doing emergency response work since 2013, at the time of the ebola outbreak in West Africa.
First Helicopters of Humanitarian Aid Arrive in Jamaica from the United States
The first helicopters with humanitarian aid and medical professionals will arrive in Jamaica tomorrow, October 29, one day after Hurricane Melissa brought devastation to the island. A group of humanitarian professionals have organized to deliver lifesaving assistance following in the aftermath of the Category 5 storm, which was the strongest hurricane to ever hit the island.
